Burnout is stress and the wrong kind of stress. If you don’t avoid it or catch it when you feeling it coming on, you will lose track of your goals and not work at the level needed to make things happen. Avoiding burnout can be done and is important as an entrepreneur especially if you are solo and doing a lot on your own. Here are a few tips to help you avoid burnout.
Work at a certain percentage consistently
- You may not be able to give 100% consistently due to a full-time job or family duties. However, determine what percentage you can work at and do that consistently. The key is to be consistent as much as possible.
Learn how to play sometimes
- All work and no play with make entrepreneurship hard. Take time out of each day, week and month to have fun. There are small things you can do to incorporate fun into your work schedule. Listen to a comedy show during a work break. Go out with friends once a week. Schedule a staycation once a month at your favorite hotel.
Be ok with not being ok
- It’s ok to not be ok but don’t stay there. Be honest about your feelings and don’t try to hide them or dismiss them. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It’s hard work but so rewarding. If you’re feeling down or need to talk, have a trusted friend you can go to or seek professional help.
Check on yourself and practice self-care
- Being an entrepreneur is not an easy task. Depending on your business structure, everything is your responsibility. It’s easy to get worn out and not take care of yourself. Self-care is important and should be exercised often. You must take time to take care of yourself. If you don’t, there will be no one to run your business.

Self-care is incredibly important, but I am really bad at it 🙈. Thank you for the encouraging words in this post and for acknowledging how people struggle. I have learned that taking breaks during work helps me immensely so that I do not drain myself and burnout.
I’m so glad I could help. I know it’s so hard. I actually had to schedule it. And the more I did the easier it got. Love your blog
Self-care and play time are both so important. It’s hard to incorporate either sometimes so thank you for the reminder that it’s vital we do so 🙂 Lisa
Thanks for visiting Lisa. It’s most forgotten but so important.
I sometimes forget to make time for myself. Which in turn makes me grumpy & upset for having a ton of work to do in a short period of time.
Thanks for the reminder!

Love the idea of remembering to make time to play. It is something we seem to lose as adults! Watching children play they get so much joy and I think we all need to get some of that back into our lives!
So true. Thanks for reading
