Sparkle is a natural at what she does. To see her in action is a great experience. Sparkle has a way of captivating an audience with her words. She’s an excellent strategist and PR expert. I’m honored to feature her on my blog.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
I am a strategic communication and marketing leader in the Houston area. I specialize in public relations, employee communications, media relations, and community affairs. In one of my previous roles at the City of Pearland, Texas, the Communications Department that I led received more than 30 awards for their communications and marketing efforts. One honor the department received was the coveted Government Communications Team of the Year award from the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The same organization named me Public Relations Professional of the Year in 2016. When I transitioned from my role at the City of Pearland, Mayor Tom Reid issued a proclamation declaring February 1, 2018, as Sparkle Anderson Day in Pearland acknowledging my efforts while working for the City of Pearland. I have also received the prestigious 40 Under 40 recognition from the Houston Business Journal in the 2019 Class.

What inspired you to pursue this area?
In my formative years, I wanted to be the owner of a magazine. I have always loved the written word and grew up watching the television show Living Single. I wanted to be the next Khadijah James (the character played by Queen Latifah). While attending Jack Yates Senior High School, I wrote for the Campus Defender, then, a Houston Defender publication which included the reporting of high school journalists and was distributed to area high schools. The Houston Defender is in part, why I pursued a degree and eventually a career in Journalism that I later transitioned into a role in public relations.

What’s your most proud moment?
Mayor Tom Reid issuing a proclamation declaring February 1, 2018, as Sparkle Anderson Day in Pearland to acknowledge my efforts while working for the City of Pearland continues to be an extremely proud moment in my professional career.

What’s next for you?
I am committed to lifelong learning and I will continue to work to grow in the field of communications, marketing, and public relations. I’ll also continue to seek opportunities to share my skills and expertise with others.
