I don’t know about you but I love to read. I am always reading a new book whether I have it in my hand, reading it on my Kindle app or listening to it on my Scribd app. Reading stimulates your mind, it increases your vocabulary and it can lower your stress. I love reading because it takes me away to another place. Well written books have my imagination going! I just love reading.

My physical and digital bookshelves are full of books ranging from spiritual to self-help. Because I love to read so much, I want to share with you 5 of my favorite books to read. These books have helped me develop spiritually, emotionally and as an entrepreneur.

The Woman Code by Sophia Nelson

This is one of my favorite books of all time! I read it at least twice a year. It has 20 powerful keys to unlock your life. Sophia shares with us that we all live by a code. It’s our roadmap to living and it determines how we deal with relationships, our families and even our career paths. This book intertwines Biblical principles with practical tips of how we, as women, should not only honor ourselves but honor other women as well.

You’ll Get Through This by Max Lucado

This book literally saved my life!! I mean literally. I was so down and depressed. I had lost just about everything I owned. I was homeless and hopeless. I was contemplating suicide and decided to flip through the book but I flipped to the first page of Chapter One. The words jumped out at me so clearly and I started to cry. It was as if Max was speaking to me himself. “You’ll get through this. It won’t be painless. It won’t be quick. But God will use this mess for good. In the meantime don’t be foolish or naive. But don’t despair either. With God’s help, you will get through this.” I will never forget this paragraph. Max encourages us that God is with us through all of our trials. He uses the Biblical story of Joseph to show us that although Joseph endured some major challenges, he got through it and excelled in the end.

The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

This book totally changed my prayer life. It gave me a fresh perspective on prayer and motivated me to pray on a much deeper level. Mark talks about Honi the Circle Maker, a man so bold that he drew a circle in the sand and did not budge from inside of it until God answered his prayers for rain to descend on his people. It made me begin to think about how often and how hard did I pray for things. Did I circle it until God answered it or did I just pray it once and expected God to answer it? How serious was I about the things I was asking God in prayer? My favorite quote from his book is, “God honors bold prayers because bold prayers honor God.”

Watch Your Mouth by Dr. Tony Evans

This book put how powerful our mouths can be into perspective for me. One of the greatest weapons we have is our mouth and it can be used for good or evil. We don’t realize how what we speak will come to life. Dr. Evans talks about honoring God with our speech. God wants us to lift up each other and not tear each other down. Words are hurtful and can have long term bad effects if used wrong. Dr. Evans gives us practical biblical tips on how to use our mouths for good instead of evil.
