I think some of us think the meaning of balance means to do it all. It doesn’t. Balance is hard to truly define universally especially for busy moms and entrepreneurs. I think we take on too much then try to “balance” it all. We don’t think about how we’re still not really getting it done because some place there is something lacking. Let’s talk about it.

I’m a mompreneur, active in my community and work a full-time 50 hour a week job. There is never a moment when I don’t have something to do. I’m always busy but I’ve managed to master the balancing act; most days. Balance for me looks different every single day. And I’m at a point now where I’m ok with that. I no longer beat myself up about not getting stuff done.

Some days I’m a really good mom and get all the things done related to taking care of my family but things may lack in my businesses and maybe at work. Some days I’m a really great employee, completing all my tasks on time however I may cannot make dinner or might have to reschedule a conference call. You get my point?

We don’t start our day thinking we’re not going to get things done. We wake up feeling energized and motivated to get ish done. But then things happen; the washer starts acting up, you get a long distance call for a relative or one task takes a lot longer than expected. Trust me things come up and we should expect them to. But we have to react quickly and get back on course. The mishaps can’t stop our flow.

Balance to me is a completing what you can to the best of your ability. Nothing lacks in that particular area and you’re satisfied. Now I’m not giving us a reason to not be diligent and focused. We must do that in order to stay the course. But I do want us to not be so hard on ourselves for not meeting other people’s expectations of balance.
