Allistar Banks was born and raised in McCormick South Carolina. Ms. Banks is a graduate of Lander University in Greenwood, SC, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications in 2013. The Author has been featured in the Index-Journal, The Press and Banner, McCormick Messenger, and in Lander University’s magazine for her books. Ms. Banks has been featured on various print and online media as well.
LM: Tell me a little about you.
AB: My name is Allistar Banks and I am from McCormick, SC. I am a full-time author. Besides writing, I love walking in nature, listening to the top 40 music, pet sitting, bowling, stand-up comedy, playing with my rat terrier Sylvia, and spending time with family and friends.
LM: W
hat was the inspiration for the story?
AB: The inspiration behind Lenny the Lizard and His Green Scarf was when I went through the divorce of my parents and years following that I received a green cashmere sweater that gave me comfort and peace when coping and handling my parent’s divorce.
LM: Why did you choose this title?
AB: It is a children’s book about a lizard named Lenny that shares his green scarf with his woodland friends.
LM: What did you learn while writing the book?
AB: I learned to find the positive out of a bad situation.
LM: What’s your favorite part or chapter of the book? Why?
AB: My favorite part of the book is when Lenny encourages Otter, the river otter, to keep trying to fish for fish.
LM: What were some challenges you experienced while writing this book?
AB: The tense of the book.
LM: What is the most surprising thing you discovered while writing your book?
AB: Otter, the river otter, felt happy again when wearing the green scarf despite how discouraged he felt when trying to fish for fish.
LM: What do you like to do when you are not writing?
AB: I love hiking, Pilates, local bands, and spending time with family and friends.
What advice would you tell someone who aspires to write or be an author?
Find a critique group and join Facebook groups that fall within the niche of your work.
